The Good of COVID-19 Final

Our church had a prayer gathering online the other day and many prayed that God would end this pandemic so life could get back to “normal”. I think a better prayer would be “Father God, work out your purpose for us during this pandemic, so that when it is over, we will be better Christ followers, and better people. Help us not forget how fragile and short our lives are. Teach us how to truly rest during this time and as we rest, to seek your presence with us. Help us to be like Mary who sat at your feet as Martha bustled about and give us faith to rely on You alone for our daily needs.”

David, after being in anguish in Psalm 39, is able to say in the very next Psalm “I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God,. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.” May that be the kind of life I can lead – one where even in times of fear and despair, my faith and love for God can draw others to the hope they can find in Him. And my prayer is that your life would be the same also.

Hear the promise God gives in 2 Chronicles 7:14 from the Message -“If I ever shut off the supply of rain from the skies or order the locusts to eat the crops or send a plague on my people, and my people, my God-defined people, respond by humbling themselves, praying, seeking my presence, and turning their backs on their wicked lives, I’ll be there ready for you: I’ll listen from heaven, forgive their sins, and restore their land to health.”

The promise is not that if the world repents, but if God’s people – us – repent and turn back to Him. We have to take the lead, I have to take the lead. If you’re a Christ Follower like I am, what is holding you back today from seeking God with all of your heart, soul, mind and body? Will you turn away from that and run back to God? Use the time we have during this almost worldwide shutdown to listen, to read, to seek God. You are His Beloved, His child, and He wants to spend this precious time with you.

    1. HI Susan. So true. When you hear major TV AM anchors talking about prayer, you know something is up. And Easter services were probably better attended online today than if everything was “normal”. God will bring glory to His name no matter what the circumstances. Glad to have you following.
